Antique Winsor Newton Paint Box.

This is very probably the finest Winsor Newton paint box of the metal variety that I’ve seen in forty years.

The condition is exceptional.

There is hardly a mark on it anywhere it’s just amazing that something as functional as this can last in such fine condition especially as it probably dates to the 1930s!

This is one of the sought after green label models. They are sought after because of how well they are built, and they really are built like tanks. This box is no exception.

Many boxes have the spring type bars to hold in the paint pans. These in fairness do work well.

However they they are easy to lose, can scratch the box and are particularly susceptible to rust.

This box has the in my view the far superior spring powered bars that are simply pulled back the pan inserted and the bar naturally returns to its fixed position and firmly holds the pan, rattle free.

Also these are impossible to lose.

This box also has a full set of never used and still wrapped paint pans that may be ceramic? Obviously because they’ve never been opened it’s impossible to know for sure.

Even so it’s a great set of paints and yet another bonus to an already exceptional item.

Mechanically this box opens and closes just as it should.

I’ve kept this box for quite a while but I just can’t bring myself to unwrap those sleeping paints and dirty such a pristine box. So maybe my loss is your gain.

If ever any of this type of box should go into an important collection it must be one like this.
