Antique Roberson Bijou Watercolour Paint Box.
This very rare and lovely little watercolour box dates to between the closing years of the 19th century and around 1920.
It is and was a direct competitor to the Winsor Newton bijou box which come up quite regularly.
The Roberson version is in my opinion the better model and much rarer.
Although it shares the very slim proportions of the WN version this is made from a thicker metal.
This particular box has survived very well and could be put back to use immediately.
In fact I would describe the condition as very good. This is I know a purely subjective appraisal but the box has all of its original paint both externally and internally together with its little used paints which are also original.
The box opens and closes as it should and I struggle to say anything negative about it except that maybe the label is a bit grubby from paint use!
It is a great box by a very famous maker in very good condition.
