This is a truly beautiful box. It was made by the famous makers Reeves of London around 1910 I believe.
The wood used in its construction is what was known at the time as Spanish Mahogany and was used on even the most expensive boxes by Reeves, Winsor Newton and others.
It has a wonderful warm colour that looks rich and sometimes like here features a very nice grain pattern of various colours and intensity.
This is some of the best Spanish Mahogany I’ve seen.
Internally the box is very clean and with a nice glass water bowl and it’s original China palette.
It’s original lock is also present and although I wouldn’t trust it too much the supplied key works it to lock the box. These boxes have much longer lives than ours and these little locks have done much work.
One could spend thousands on an antique paint box but it wouldn’t do anymore than this lovely little box.
