This watercolour box is of a very high quality and in my opinion was made by one of the more famous makers and possibly Roberson of London. If I could be sure of it this would be a very expensive box.
However I can’t so someone will get a bargain.
It is a box of good size but it has two cosmetic issues. But only cosmetic and nothing serious.
At some point someone re painted at least the top of the box. It doesn’t look bad in my view but it’s not very shiny.
The second issue is that there is some staining from use. It is seen in the photos. For use it’s not a problem but as I say it’s a cosmetic issue and some may not like it. Otherwise the paint internally is quite good.
Ok now it’s good points! Firstly it is full of paints that all seem useable and some are ceramic pans.
Secondly the pans are held in place by spring powered bars which is a feature only found in boxes of high quality.
They are fixed to the body of the box and swing back to allow additional paints to be placed. They then under power of the spring hold very well the paints.
They are a great invention in my opinion.
Apart from the box not being labelled, which is relatively common, and the cosmetic points mentioned this is a very nice box and very useful.
If it wore a Roberson label it would be around £450 but it is greatly reduced here.
