We have here a hardly touched full ceramic pan of Genuine Emerald Green. This one was made by the justly famous firm of George Rowney around 1890. This is a genuinely rare object and colour and was so popular with the Pre-Raphaelites and the Impressionists although it was in use much earlier also.In this form it is one of my favourites and presents itself as a kind of rich living green.
The one drawback to this colour is that it is one of the toxic colours.
What does this really mean? Well to me it means that the artist has to use a good slice of common sense! ie, don’t eat or drink whilst using it and if you are a smoker don’t do that also.
All paints have the ability to be dangerous although to be fair this one does have a head start on most. However I would like to think that you understand my meaning.
It’s all about choice’s perhaps. I choose to use it and to offer to share it with you because it is beautiful and rare and it will never be made again. There are modern equivalent colours but to me they cannot match this and perhaps that’s why these vintage colours are still in use.
I will always use this one and many others and so I invite you to grab one while you can.
