This is a genuinely nice paint box from the great makers Winsor & Newton of London.
What is really nice is that its original box is still with it showing the original price of 65 Shillings which when this was made in the 1960s was a king’s ransom!
It is a 12 full pan box and I’m sure some of its original paints are present but very helpfully someone has issued it with some brand new ones by the makers also. Consequently there’s lots of paint present.
Internally the box has suffered some white paint loss and in fairness it will lose more over time as they all do if used.
The problem is that most people don’t look after them very well and put them away wet. In truth we all know water and metal don’t get on very well especially in an enclosed area.
However the main palette area is very good but the folding palette has some small rust blisters which I know sounds like a pain but it’s not unless you like the immaculate never used box look.
Because of the cosmetic problems I’ve reduced the price a bit on this but it is perfectly usable and again if looked after will last. In fact at this price it could be restored and I’ve seen many in my job as a museums conservator that have been done well with easy to get hold of materials. Of course they’re not perfect but nice useable and almost everlasting!
There’s a little bit of scratching to the outer but nothing terrible.
All in all it’s a good solid thing that will serve well at a good price and with its original box. What’s not to like!
