This is one of the famed green label examples of this type of box made by Winsor and Newton. The label was used for quite a while with the early boxes built extra heavy!

This I think dates to the 1950s so no spring chicken!

It is however in really nice condition and of course is fully useable.

It has a full set of pans which are probably its originals and still contain paint. These I think are made from Bakelite which is often referred to as a plastic and it is an early form of it but it’s not like a plastic of our modern world being almost like a ceramic.

This means that when these pans are empty they can be washed and filled with colours of your choice which is a very flexible approach. Most use tubed paints to refill them but of course you come your own paints.

There is also a later tube of Chinese white here which of course when added to watercolour makes the paint into Gouache. So in fact this is a bit like two boxes in one!

The box opens and closes as it should and the hinges are good.
